Roland's Singapore SHAWWIING
01/18/2002
Well, after a hectic trip threw India, I've finally reached civilization and
landed in the absolutely beautiful Singapore! It's totally over whelming to be
back in a "normal" country again. I saw McDonalds, KFC, etc for the first time
in months, and today it took me about 5 minutes just to order a burger - I'd
forgotten how much choice western (ised) countries have! It's also a relief to
be able to speak English, and be understood.
Last night I also went on a huge drinking binge, the night life here is the best
I've seen for such a long time, (perhaps in the world!), and the first time in
my travels that I got absolutely shit faced. It's also great to not have to
worry about:
a) Having your personal belongings stolen
b) Have someone drug your drink
c) Every second person trying to sell you drugs or "antiques"
d) Sleazy pimps with their drugged-out hookers
e) Cockroach's, rats, etc in your hotel room
f) People shitting in the street (in broad daylight)
I realize I might be carrying on a bit here, but China, Nepal, and India were
very difficult and demanding places to travel in, especially by yourself. No
regrets though.
Tomorrow I'm off to Bali, where I scored a job - teaching scuba diving! As some
of you may know, I was trying for the Maldives, but the employment opportunities
were somewhat scarce, so, Bali it is! (The choices one must make!)
That's all for now as I must get ready for a HUGE dance party tonight.
Hope all is well,
Roland
