Hazel Settles Into Seoul

09/15/2001

Finally out of the south of Korea; a four hour train ride to Seoul was my mock version of the Siberian express. To my surprise most the trip looked like going through the Fraser vally in Vancouver, minus the coastal mountains. My first view of water, the Han River - wide - and past building after building of mumdane Korean architecture. Almost every apartment building looks like grain elevators from the prairies in Alberta.

Seoul - more buildings - the population density is overwhelming. I'll bet most people have never heard a robin or been camping and they probably don't care. But they are very friendly and not as aggressive as some Canadians and Americans we know. Since people is what they have most of, I guess they have to love each other.

They do like Americans though. I couldn't help think of you all day because there is so much copy of American stuff. The new Seoul will look more American, and not Europen.

I decided not to go to Greece but to continue working. Oh woe is me. Just keep my mind on the working and then... I'll see.

Imagine having not just a summer cottage, but a summer palace AND a winter palace! Your hotel room looks similiar to mine in Seoul for a mere 30 dollars a night. On with the journey.
