Grant's Speaking Spanish
11/05/2003
Hey,
I'm in Spain speaking Spanish. It's good, but too expensive. This is where you
started your big trip across Europe and Asia isn't it? Do you know anyone in
Seville? I'm living in Seville and renting a room from some woman, but I found
out she's charging me too much. I'm looking around for a new place now. Maybe if
you know someone I could rent a room from them. There's a big difference between
the types of people who travel to the third world, and the types who travel to
Europe. I'm kind of missing the crowded buses and dirty tap water. Whatever, I
think Europe is something people ought to see at some point. That's what I'm
doing. If anything it's interesting, but the people are kind of stuck on
themselves. My situation is good though, because I've managed to fall in with a
group of musicians who camp out and play in pubs, and generally have a really
good time. I'm planning on staying here until the spring and then taking of to
see some other countries. Between now and then I'll probably spend a bit of time
in Morrocco. Now for the pashminas. The quality was good. I think I got charged
a little too much though. You ought to try to bring him down from the first
price he gives you. I've had pretty good luck selling them. I haven't really
tried very hard. I've got some on consignment in a shop in North Carolina, and
some others are at home. Some lady is supposed to buy a bunch of them but I have
to call her. I'm going to have to get somebody to drive to her town and give
them to her. I know that they're supposedly worth $70 or something, but nobody
will buy them for that much from me. I've just been selling them for $40. It's
still a pretty good profit. I did a wire transfer. It was kind of confusing, but
do-able. The lady at the bank kept on trying to send the money to US
protectorates. I had the hardest time explaining to her that Nepal isn't owned
by the US. I guess that's all. When you talk to the Nepal guy tell him I said
hi, and that I'll probably buy some more scarves when I finish this batch off. I
know it would be much cheaper to buy them there. How long were you in Spain? Are
there some neat things you recommend? Are you going to be in South America in
July or August? I'm going home for a week or two at Christmas, and will have to
get a new ticket. Someone told me that it's possible to buy tickets where you
can choose to have odd stopovers, and that it isn't more expensive. If they
weren't shitting me I'm going to get one, and South America would be a good
place for a week or two stopover after I get tired of all this European
fancypants nonsense. Maybe we could do what we had talked about doing this past
summer. I've got to go now. I have to eat eggs and ham with somebody. They love
they're eggs and ham.
I'll talk to you later.
