Jim's Advice
02/24/2003
dude daryl most mighty of travelers, i've been reticent about reading your logs
since the holidays commotion took hold. now that things are settling down again,
i'm back into it with gusto.
vietnam sounds the same as it was ten years ago. sounds like they take you to
the same tourist sites. you'd think they would have dug up something new. of
course you manage to find extra-curricular entertainment everywhere, especially
at the borders, don't you? glad you're okay, mate. that was thanksgiving day, by
the way... and cambodia! you must have been right on the old ho chi minh trail,
over there on the east side. count your blessings that you didn't run into some
unexploded ordinance left by uncle sam.
your narrative is excellent. terse and effective. most people get way too wordy.
like your photos, you capture much in one frame of words. and the sarcasm is
sweeeet... :-)
great new quote from kevin: "what would daryl do?" that went on weaselville.
don't let the europeans take you too much to task: first of all, what the USA
does is not all your fault and you didn't sign up to be the apologist, and
secondly, france is making big oil deals with iraq and germany sold them the
means to make their alleged weapons of mass destruction, so they are crying
crocodile tears and are not holier than thou.
i've noticed a couple different times you wished you had a tape recorder. why
not grab a small one? an of course, if you had one of these miniDV camcorders,
you'd have it all rolled into one. last summer i shot 14 hours of tape in
switzerland. kept the camera in a mini dry bag strapped to my belly as i hiked
across the country. which also reminds me: i still have the swiss army knife to
send you.
