Roland's Doing It Hard In Bali
01/22/2002
Hello from Bali!
I have a smile on my face that just won't disappear! I was offered the scuba
diving job that I applied for, so I'm no longer an unemployed bum! The company I
now work for is one of the bigger dive operations here, and they also have
interests in hotels, cruises, etc, which is great news for me, as I can stay in
5 star deserted island hotels all for free (friends and family too!)
The diving here is absolutely gorgeous, the reefs, much to my relief, are in
pristine condition, abundant with every type of marine creature imaginable -
sharks, mantas, the famous sun fish (much bigger than a diver), dolphins and
hundreds of different types of tropical fish. The water is also amazingly clear
and clean. I'm about to move out of the hotel I'm staying in, and move into my
own company provided house. The house is in the traditional Balinese style (very
open, decked out with beautiful wooden furniture), with a swimming pool (!), my
own cook(!!!) and my own maid(!!!!!!!). All surrounded by lush greenery.
Unbelievable or what! The gods are obviously looking down upon me with alot of
favor!
The people I work with are a great bunch too - very friendly and helpful, and
took me outlast night as a welcome celebration. 9 hours of solid drinking and as
a result only a couple of hours sleep, but with the work(?) I do, it's not a
problem at all. The nightlife here is also awesome! Bars and clubs everywhere,
catering to the mostly Australian and Japanese markets. Monday or Saturday, they
still go off. The Balinese and Indonesians are sooooo friendly too, a constant
smile always on their faces, and considering their environment and lifestyle,
it's easy to see why. This place is truly paradise. A greatplace to finish my
travels.
That's all for now. Once I get settled I'll give you my address, phone number,
etc. I'm off to get some much needed sleep.
Hope all is well,
Roland in paradise!
