Vishal's Greetings
9/29/2005
Darryl old man!
Cannot believe the Don Quixote you've been! Do you remember me -- Vishal -- we
were in Gersho's lab. together, even worked out in the new UCSB gym once in a
while (when you could remember to make it!) and you took us to Lake Nacimiento
for some cool water skiing in the summer of 94 or 95, I forget exactly. When was
that -- let me see back in 1995 or so perhaps. Almost a decade to the day!
Well, stumbled upon your site via a link from Manjunath's page -- and couldn't
resist the temptation to write.
I see that you've been through India already?? Well, that's a pity, cause if you
were there now, we could have met!
Anyway, will you be returning to the good ol' US of A anytime soon, or will your
travels keep you in South America for a long time.
(BTW, read your travelogue -- glad you got rid of Dorotea!)
More on hearing from you, and all the best with your travels in South America.
Best, -Vishal
...AND...
Hi Daryl,
Good to hear back.
Well, India is a special, crazy place! No, I am not near Delhi, but rather in
Mumbai at present, for some time. I am on a contract, teaching and doing some
research at the Dept. of EE, IIT Bombay.
After USCB, I went East, to Boston in early 1998, worked there for 3 years for a
company called Tellabs (they make digital cross-connects for the phone
networks), but I was in their Research Center, working on IP networks. Then I
moved West, to the Valley, worked for a while for a startup called Jasmine
Networks, and in mid-2001, started my own consulting company to consult to
system vendors and carriers, which is what I am currently doing too.
I am in India for some time to explore the landscape, and to see if we can drum
up some business with the rapidly growing service providers here. I keep going
back and forth between the Valley and here, and will likely be here until next
summer.
When you have a moment, check out http://www.metanoia-inc.com for more info. on
the company.
Best, -Vishal
