Seth's Leap Years

1/28/2005

Nimen Hao,

It's been leap years since I've last contacted most of you. My little big Sage is now 9 months old! Her birthday is April 23, so it's just around the bend. There's a picture of her attached to this E-mail. I just received it from Sara. It put me in tears. Sara and Sage are in Beijing right now, I'm here state-side. I was in Beijing for two weeks during December, I came back the 28. I won't be able to see my two spring rolls until Feb. 13. There staying past China's New Year, which is the 9th. When we went to Beijing in December we surprised Sara's parents. Before we went, I told them on ole Seth Grant lie. That I was bringing a group of high school students to China during Christmas break, and that Sara and Sage wouldn't be able to come with me. Sara's dad, all along sensed that his daughter was coming home. But her parents were still very surprised and ecstatic to see their grand baby and to see Sara. Who had bravely married me, had a baby, and spent a year and half away from home for the first time in her life, in a strange little place called Columbus, GA.

I'm doing freelance photography right now, I bought a really nice digital camera. I've gotten a few things published. But for life support I'm still working four jobs. I'm teaching English to foreigners at our local university, sub-teaching, waiting tables, and sometimes I'll shoot pictures of houses that are being foreclosed. But I still manage to find time to pursue my dream in photojournalism. I've been shooting pictures of basketball and hockey games. I need to strengthen my sports portfolio. I'm lucky because Columbus has a minor league teams for hockey, basketball, and baseball and a arena football team. So I'm not stuck with just shooting high school and college teams.

In February, Sara will start teaching Chinese at the same college I work for. But, she needs at least four students for her class to start. She's a little nervous, but she'll be fine. We found great books, CDs, posters, and flash cards in China. And I'm going to help her develop a curriculum. My Chinese is improving. I speak over a thousand words, but my reading and writing levels are lagging behind. I've been reading Chinese children's books to help boost my reading level. I do that when I sub teach, so I won't be bored to death.

Well enough from C- Town. I'm sub-teaching at Carver High School right now. My breaks about to be over.

Wo Ai Nimen,
