Ruppert's Bolivian Affairs

10/09/2004

Nice place, isn't it? Don't miss to see the floating islands of the Urus. When you cross to Bilivia, go to Copacabana and take the trip to the Isla del Sol. Right outside Copacabana, you'll see the Bolivian Navy. The entire navy consists of 40+ soldiers and one boat.

In Bolivia you *HAVE* to see the desert of Uyuni. Take the 3/4 day trip to the Salton Lakes and the geysir. From there, you can cross into Chile if you want. Watch your stuff in Bolivia. I got my backpack taken there. We also heard stories of people who lost their stuff on the night bus from Urur to Uyuni. The buses stop in the middle of the night and exchange luggage. When you get to Uyuni, your pack is gone. Also, be aware of so-called officials that want to check your passport when you get there. When you get it out of your pouch, they snatch it and run off with it. But apart from those dangers, the Uyuni dessert is the best thing we saw on our trip.

When crossing from Bolivia into Chile, stop at San Pedro de Atacama and check out the Valey de la Luna.

From San Pedro, we took the bus to Salta, Argentinia, and from there to the little town of Cafayate, which is very nice. Rent a bike, catch the 5am bus back to Salta and ask to get dropped off at the Garganta del Diablo, which is 50km out of Cafayate. The bike back is extremely nice and there's a lot to see.

Have fun, Ru _ _ ______________________________________________________ _ _
