Rory's Off Again

Hello,

This will seem strange to those who I’ve seen recently but most people on this list probably don’t even remember who I am. Well, if you’ve received this we have met at some point in the past.

If I remember correctly the last update email I sent was 2 years ago from Bangkok which I was passing through with my comrades on a bicycle ride from England to Singapore.

Well we made it to Singapore to a wonderful reception with free Singapore slings at Raffles and a reception at the Ambassadors house (without Ferrero Roche) all thanks to the British Council. We were on a few local TV channels in England and I’m grateful to Clive for spotting us in the Guardian.

However, my personal goal was always to ride to Sydney – being approximately opposite London so I leave tomorrow (Mon) to collect my bike from a BP Warehouse in Singapore. I’ll fly on to Darwin where (after acclimatising to the tropical heat) my planed route is straight through the Australian interior along the Stewart Highway.

I’m travelling alone since, despite my appeals on the internet, nobody seems inclined to ride a bicycle through the Australian desert (personally – I just don’t understand it)

I’ll do updates which, I hope will be funny rather than scary. If you don’t want these – please let me know and I’ll take you off the list.
